Welcome to Day 1 of our family adventure in Athens, Greece! This is the first video in our 3-part Athens series — and we’re kicking things off with some of the city’s most iconic ancient landmarks. We started our day at the Acropolis, and here’s our top tip: book the 8:00 AM time slot to avoid the crowds and summer heat. There’s a short line at the beginning, but the peaceful morning views of the Parthenon, Erechtheion, and Odeon of Herodes Atticus make it absolutely worth it! 🎒 If you're traveling with kids, take advantage of the stroller and bag storage near the entrance. ⛔ One mistake we made: we skipped the Southern Slope by accident. Once you exit the main path, you can't reenter — so make sure to explore every section before leaving! After the Acropolis, we climbed Areopagus Hill for sweeping views of Athens. Then we explored the Roman Agora, Hadrian’s Library, and the Ancient Agora — all included in the Athens Combined Ticket, which we highly recommend for both savings and convenience. We wrapped up our day at Monastiraki Square, one of the best places in the city for food, shopping, and people-watching. We grabbed lunch at The Greco's Project — delicious and family-friendly! ⏱️ Chapters: 00:18 - Intro 00:27 - Driving into Athens 07:01 - Thoughts on Our First Day 09:16 - Start of Day 1 in Athens 10:56 - Exploring the Acropolis 14:36 - Climbing Areopagus Hill 15:11 - Visiting the Roman Agora 17:06 - Walking Around Hadrian's Library 18:16 - Exploring the Ancient Agora 20:22 - Monastiraki Square & Lunch 🧳 Athens Day 1 Travel Tips: 1. Book Acropolis tickets for 8:00 AM entry to avoid crowds. 2. Get the Combined Ticket — it includes the Acropolis and six other sites. 3. Use the storage lockers if traveling with bags or a stroller. 4. Don't miss the Southern Slope of the Acropolis — you can't reenter if you exit early. 5. Lunch at Monastiraki Square offers plenty of options — The Greco's Project was our fave! 📍This is just Part 1 of our 3-part Athens vlog series — subscribe and follow along as we explore more of Greece’s capital and head north toward Meteora! 🔔 Subscribe for weekly family travel vlogs from 100 countries ✍️ Full travel guides & family itineraries: www.gabbettsonthego.com 📸 Follow us on Instagram: @gabbettfamilytravels 🎥 Next Video: [ Athens Day 2 – Temple of Zeus, Kerameikos & Hadrian’s Gate ]
