IIEA is pleased to host a monthly webinar series, a combination of keynote talks and panel sessions, on the second Wednesday of each month at the following times: 08.00 LA time | 11.00 Washington DC time | 16.00 London time | 19.30 Tehran time. The share of non-oil exports in Iran’s aggregate exports has been gradually increasing over the last few decades. On the eve of the revolution, the CBI data suggest, only about 3% of Iran’s exports were made of non-oil products. By 2018, this share increased to about 40%. Laudati and Pesaran (2021) suggest that this share has increased even more in 2019, exceeding 55%. Though part of this increase may be caused by sanctions, it illustrates that Iran’s economy is well capable of diversifying its exports. We examine the underlying forces behind export diversification in oil-rich countries, including Iran, and we explore what may hinder such developments. Chair: Saleh Sahabeh Tabrizy (University of Oklahoma) Speakers: Mostafa Beshkar (Indiana University), Daria Taglioni (World Bank), and Eric Werker (Simon Fraser University) For more details about the IIEA webinar series and to register see: https://www.iraneconomics.org/webinars
