The Legend of 1096 (2024)| A Greek Cinema Edit| History| Adventure| Short Film | English Subtitles

Greek historical adventure short film directed by Vardis Marinakis. At the beginning of the 9th Century, the Byzantine Empire faces a new rising hostile power: the Seljuks, a Turkoman tribe that aspires to create a Sultanate ιn the primordial regions of the old Empire. The battle between the two powers approaches. Everything will be decided by the mission of a Greek byzantine spy. The mighty Seljuk warriors managed to capture him, but they haven't counted on the one factor with the power to change everything: love. ---------- Original Title: Ο Θρύλος του 1096 Cast: Christos Passalis Sofia Georgovassili Despoina Bebedeli Maria Panouria Hakan Boyav Movie Trivia: 1. The short film is edited from Vardis Marinakis' feature film "Black Field" (2009), although the additions include new dialog, new CGI scenes, and a brand new plot. 2. For historical accuracy, every character speaks their national language (Turkish and Greek). The film also contains references to historical events and persons, such as the battle of Manzikert (1071), the sack of Constantinople by the Crusaders (1204 AD) and Seljuk Sultan Kilij Arslan I (‎1079–1107). 3. Filming took place at Palamidi fortress, located in the town of Nafplio in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece. The fortress, built around 1686-1715, commands an impressive view over the Argolic Gulf, the city of Náfplio and the surrounding country, and is a major tourist attraction. The movie "Byzantine Rhapsody" (also known as "Imperiale") was also shot there in 1968.
