I'm not a doctor. I'm just a first year medical student. This isn't medical advice. What do I know? I have my first exam in "Body and Disease" tomorrow covering the basic intros to pharmacology, pathology, immunology, and microbiology. Medical school is very fun at the moment finally learning both applicable medical knowledge and the answers to questions I've had for a long time such as "what causes drugs to interact with each other?" or "how do antibiotics work"? In this video, I share the mechanism by which a lot of the drug interactions your doctors and pharmacists have to consider occur: induction and inhibition of Cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver. I specifically found it interesting how CYP2E1 explains why taking acetaminophen if you consume a lot of alcohol regularly can damage your liver. Note: For those that are new here, I'm not a doctor (yet). I'm currently a first year medical student at Duke University. LIKE the video to help the Youtube Algorithm Questions, Comments, Concerns?
