What connects Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) to the revolutionary IMAX film format? This special tribute event at the University of Toronto’s Innis Town Hall curated, produced by Powys Dewhurst celebrated the life and legacy of UofT alumnus Graeme Ferguson, visionary co-inventor of IMAX, through his favorite film and a thought-provoking panel on cinema, legacy, and innovation. The event featured a screening of Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and a panel discussion exploring how storytelling, technology, and personal vision intersected in Ferguson’s groundbreaking work. Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Rhonda McEwen, President of Victoria College and Canada Research Chair in Tactile Interfaces, Communication & Cognition. The panel was moderated by Powys Dewhurst and included acclaimed filmmaker Munro Ferguson (National Film Board of Canada) and Dr. Janine Marchessault (York University), Canada Research Chair in Art, Digital Media & Globalization.
