Winter 2021/22 has been a virtually snowless winter for most of us but we will actually have some snow falling this weekend across the northern half of the country as colder air is pulled in from Greenland temporarily. It will only be a brief incursion though before milder air makes its return early next week. A hint of another cooler episode towards the end of next week perhaps? Saturday morning has been dry and sunny across much of southern and eastern England. Elsewhere Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland have got outbreaks of persistent and heavy rain being driven in by strong to gale force westerly winds. The rest of the day will see the rain pushing southwards to effect parts of the Midlands and East Anglia this afternoon. The far south should stay dry while Northern Ireland and northern England remains wet. Colder air will dig into Scotland so we'll see some of the rain turning to snow across central and western Scotland this afternoon. Temperatures will range from 2C in the far north to 9C in the south. Overnight, further spells of wet weather will push eastwards across England and Wales with some heavy and persistent rain in places. Northern Ireland, northern England and Scotland will turn clearer but still with showers. The showers will turn increasingly to snow across Scotland where they are likely to merge into longer spells of snow with a covering of snow possible even to low levels in places. It will be a windy night with widespread gusts of wind from 50-60MPH which will lead to drifting of snow over Scottish hills and mountains. Temperatures will range from -2C in the far north to +9C on the south coast. Sunday will start wet across the south and south east but the rain should quickly clear away to leave us with sunny spells and showers. Most of the showers will be in the north and west with very few getting to the south east. The showers will fall manly as snow again across Scotland with accumulations of snow possible to low levels once again. Temperatures will be generally quite cold at 1C to 7C. Monday will see a warm front pushing eastwards across the country introducing milder air from off the Atlantic once more. Most places will start Monday dry, sunny and cold with a widespread frost. Clouds will generally thicken from the west with light rain and drizzle in western regions during Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be chilly in the north and east at 3C to 6C but milder in the south and west at 8C to 11C. Tuesday looks an exceptionally mild day for England and Wales. There will be a lot of cloud and some light rain or drizzle in places but the south east could also have some bright or sunny intervals. A weather front will bring persistent rain to parts of northern England and Northern Ireland while Scotland has sunshine and showers. Temperatures range from 7C in the north to 14C in the east! A cold front will push southwards across England and Wales on Wednesday taking a band of rain but weakening as it does so. Brighter skies and showers will follow to the northern half of the country with the showers turning increasingly wintry across northern Scotland. Temperatures will still be very mild in the south at 9C to 11C but colder air will return to the north at 3C to 6C. Thursday will be a brighter, cooler day with sunny spells and a few showers. Most of the showers will be in the north and west while southern and eastern regions remain dry and sunny. The showers are likely to be wintry across Scotland. Temperatures 3C to 8C. Friday starts with a widespread frost but wet and windy weather is likely to arrive in the north and west through the day but most southern and eastern regions will probably stay dry until after dark. Temperatures 5C to 11C so despite the arrival of wet and windy weather at least it will be mild. Next weekend looks unsettled. Saturday could be wet and windy while Sunday has sunshine and showers. Temperatures remain mild overall.
