Just some of the basic fundamentals that I’ve taught and have been taught to me over the years of how to take care of football. You know sometimes we tell the players who want something we don’t always give them the skills or the rules they need to use in order to make that happen I can’t just stand on a practice and say take care of the football if I haven’t told you how or showed you how or taught you how so those some of the things its really quite simple I’m not a huge this many pressure points this type of thing I try to keep it as simple as possible I use that just approach keep it simple stupid that’s what I feel I think you got to keep it simple for your players and make it pretty easy for them so my little mantra really simple is high and tight nose to the sky okay just like it sounds what I want is I want that football up high on their breast plate up high on their chest with that nose about forty five degrees to the sky a couple of things that we’re gonna talk about is I want to have that wrist above the elbow okay I want to see the wrist above the elbow I never want to see the position to where now we’re in a flat space here you can obviously see there’s just so much space so much air that that ball can slip out of in those types of things so I want to see them have a high tight nose to the sky tight up there also want to make sure it just important I’m not as concerned with what they do with the cone of the football but I definitely want have their fingers over that cone okay over the cone of the football nice and tight so that when its high up here high tight nose to the sky up on their chest then it’s very secure this this is the extreme this is what I push to turn and receive our players anytime their carrying the ball anytime they running the football I also understand that not all the time is this place where the ball is exactly gonna because there running and sprinting but I do know that as that ball slips and gets a little bit looser if I’ve emphasized this and their just off a little bit that ball is still protected really well so that’s my one arm technique for how I want them carrying that ball how I want them running with it. The other thing is what I do with two arms. How do I protect the ball when I’ve got two arms and how do I teach that as well. Well first off any time we’re in traffic I emphasize two arms two arms on the ball two arms on the ball two arms on the ball whenever you’re in traffic because you don’t know where you gonna get hit from you may get hit from behind you may get hit form the side anything but anytime you’re in traffic anytime contacts been made you definitely need to have two arms on the ball now I’ve I’ve did this so just straight cross over ball over here case like this I don’t teach I think that I don’t think you’re just not as strong that way again I want it based off on how we do things with it on one arm so the balls up high tight on our chest I’m running I’m making my cuts I’m making the move I’m getting traffic what I teach is to take that off hand and basically slap that wrist and have it in the position here now what I’ve got is my arms kind of in a V shape here and I want them to squeeze there gonna curl they’ve spent all this time looking pretty for the girls down their bust their biceps getting strong so I’m gonna go ahead and use those to take care of the football and when I take this ball and I’ve got my wrist here I’m gonna try to squeeze the air out of the football I want them to be squeezing so tight so strong with that football that they can squeeze the air out now with that I know its protected its strong their physical guys are pulling at their hands there in very good shape with the ball with two arms in traffic like that so this one of the things I’ve done there’s other ways to do it but I’ve seen some successful players that I’ve used and done this and it really worked on clamping that football and being tight with it it’s all about being physical with that football as I tell guys guys can be physical when they try to strip it from you well you know what you’ve got to be pretty **** physical to hold on too so that’s one of the things a two arm curl ball squeezing against your chest not allowing them to take it away from you one of the other things that when you look at and you talk about and you see it all the time I see it in NFL I see it in college I see it at all different levels.
