SCRC Public Talk 2/4/26: Preadolescent Self-Injury Intervention Design with Dr. Sarah Kennedy

In this presentation, Dr. Kennedy discussed how rates of self-injurious thoughts and behaviors in preadolescents have changed over time, what makes this age group uniquely at risk, and what treatments are currently supported by research. She described her team’s work to develop one of the first treatments created specifically for preadolescents, using feedback from children, families, therapists, and suicide prevention researchers throughout the development process. Dr. Kennedy also shared early results from a needs assessment, explain models that highlight possible treatment targets, and invite audience input on what the new intervention should prioritize.
