Every so often, a sonic encounter leaves such a deep imprint that it rewires your very perception of music. For me, one such formative moment came the first time I heard that unmistakable squelch—the elastic, resonant growl of a Roland TB-303 in full flight. It wasn’t just a sound. It was a portal. Originally conceived as a humble, and frankly unpopular, stand-in for bass guitarists, the silver box that Roland launched in 1981 was never meant for the history books. But history had other plans. When a visionary handful of Chicago producers repurposed the TB-303’s synthetic hiccups and filter sweeps into the heartbeat of Acid House, they sparked a seismic shift in electronic music. And in doing so, they turned a commercial flop into a cult icon. For this mix, I’m dialling down the strobes and dialing up the introspection. This isn’t a celebration of warehouse bangers or iconic acid anthems we all know and love—no Plastikman minimalism, no turbocharged breaks from The Prodigy, no anthemic Daft Punk basslines. Not this time. But feel free to comment on your all time favorite acid tunes - I would love to hear them ! Instead, this is a tribute to the more contemplative corners of the 303’s legacy: ambient, downtempo, and psychedelic-infused excursions where the machine's voice is woven subtly—or sometimes boldly—into dreamlike textures. Some tracks use it as an undercurrent, a gentle fizz beneath the mix, while others let the 303 sing in full resonance, vibrating in sympathetic harmony with the nervous system. There’s a meditative quality to the TB-303 when it’s not trying to fill a dancefloor—a side of it that too often gets overlooked. This mix explores that dimension. It’s a late-night journey, beginning in the low orbit of chilled atmospheres and slowly drifting into more energized realms as the set progresses. Enjoy the ride. And remember: acid isn’t just a sound. It’s a state of mind.
