And I won’t bore you with the origin of these but the story does seem to get lost in translation with margiela being the original creators of this shoe. And that couldn’t be further from the truth. These shoes were exclusively made for the German army by Adidas and it wasn’t available to the public until the cold war ended, which resulted in downsizing troops and having less use for their trainers. It was estimated that there were about 500,00 pairs of trainers that that have been produced and since many of the ex-soldiers had no use for them, they simply sold them to anyone who was willing to purchase them. Come back to now, you see many renditions of the german army trainer with Margiela being one of the well-known brands to push this style shoe. I’ve checked out a pair in store and they were going for about $400 and for an extra $100 you can get one with paint splattered on them. I don’t know about you guys but I wasn’t feeling that price point and being the savvy shopper that I am, I decided to go with a much cheaper alternative but still being a quality shoe. I’ve done a few videos from this brand and I love the direct to consumer business model because not only am I still getting a quality shoe but also I don’t have to resort to paying those marked up prices. These guys stayed true to the design of the original german army trainers by keeping that slim and sleek silhouette with the classic gum bottoms mixed with a white leather upper and light grey suede. And one nice thing about these is the luxury touch by adding a full leather insole. Each shoe from this company is completely hand made in Portugal and if you use the code Assembled at checkout, you can score these shoes for about $120. They also have a full leather version as well that I may consider picking up but one thing is I can retire the puma alternatives that I use to wear.
