On The Newshour Agenda with Padmaja Joshi, we discuss UP Polls violence. Widespread violence was reported in Uttar Pradesh over the Block Pramukh elections. Various districts including Siddharthnagar, Sitapur, Gorakhpur, Sambhal during the nomination of papers for the block pramukh elections witnessed gun firing and stone-pelting. It all started when the opposition candidates were there filing their candidature and nomination papers. Munni Devi an independent candidate was prevented from entering the office by unidentified people, and they opened fire in presence of the police. Munni Devi's supporters blocked the highway in protest. Massive destruction also followed with a dozen of transport being vandalized. “Today everyone in UP is prepared for violence, this is the kind of leadership BJP has given,” says Ghanshyam Tiwari, National Spokesperson SP.
