HDR's Raffaella Geremia, and her family, began raising puppies for Canine Companions 10 years ago. Since then, they’ve raised five puppies from eight weeks to a year-and-a-half old, at which point her family says goodbye to their puppy so that it can enter professional training to become an expertly trained service dog for adults, children and veterans with disabilities. When someone is matched with a service dog free of charge, they visit the organization's Santa Rosa campus for two weeks of intense training with their new dogs in Gittinger Hall. In 2023, this facility where the “heart of the training” happens received improvements thanks to the support of an HDR Foundation grant.
