IRCAD/EITS was the idea of Professor Jacques Marescaux of Strasbourg. For the first time ever, this entire institute, created in 1994 brought together teams of surgeons, doctors, researchers, engineers and computer specialists, not forgetting very strong corporate support to create a completely new branch of modern medicine: E-surgery. In the last fifteen years, since the beginning of the IRCAD institute, electronics and minimally-invasive techniques have improved beyond recognition. Today, IRCAD is present on three continents.
