Forest as balm for The Soul. You find me there when I'm broken, You find me there too when I'm whole. It is the forest with The Darkness, It is the forest with The Light. There's got to be something magic about this forest patch, can you feel it too? Shot handheld with the new LEICA 8-18mm f/2.8-4.0 lens (pre-production) Lumix GH5 in V-LogL 10bit (except the flowing water scenes shot in 4K 50p 8bit) mounted on the new ZHIYUN Crane 3-axis gimbal. I walked in the forest for well over an hour comfortably with this setup, compared to the DJI Ronin-M which I own but rarely use because of the project it is to get out and shoot with it spontaneously and without effort. So far, the ZhiYun Crane together with the GH5 is one of those big "life-changers" regarding how I work creatively without being limited by bulk and weight of the gear. For this kind of work, I previously had to hook up the Atomos Shogun to the Ronin-M with the GH4 to get this kind of footage. And yet the internally recorded 10bit (and to some extent also the 8bit) V-LogL footage is so much more robust and have a tremendous amount of latitude in post, even compared to the ProRes from Shogun on the GH4. Post work: Final Cut Pro X, graded with Color Finale and OSIRIS Vision X and OSIRIS KDX Log LUTs. No added grain. Some of the water scenes were shot between ISO2000 and 3200, like the flowing water at 0:48, 2:20 and 2:39. The "broken tree" scene at 2:33 was shot at ISO1250, the rest of the footage shot between 400 and 800 ISO. I used shutter priority, Auto-ISO limited to 3200, and exposure comp -2/3 to 0EV throughout the shoot (evaluating exposure with zebras and WFM). I was a bit lazy and used AWB, hence some variation in color throughout some scenes. All scenes captured at 8mm (16mm FF equivalent) ultra wide angle on the GH5. Music: 'Breathing In' by Kathy Lowe (http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Kat...) and 'Seeker' by Kai Engel (http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Kai...) The bird's song right after the prelude was captured with the on-board microphones in the GH5. ZhiYun Crane: http://www.zhiyun-tech.com/crane_en/
