Hi fellow YouTubers! It's your bad ol' uncle Chris here again, to share some stories with you from the off grid property and garden. Truly, one of the most interesting things you can do as a hedge against future societal turbulence, not to mention the current cost of living pressures, is to learn how to grow at least some of your own as well as your families food. Most people don't have a clue about this subject, but you will, eventually. Winning! The land here was cheap, and that meant no access to any services which people in western society ordinarily expects to see. For me this was an enjoyable challenge. Doesn't mean that you can't go your own way though, and that's what we did here - we use off grid solar panels with LiFePO4 batteries to supply electricity to the house and sheds. We've been using this technology since 2007 and are familiar with the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of it. Plenty of people believe that off grid solar power systems are a set and forget proposition, but here I beg to differ. The system itself requires regular inspection, maintenance and upgrades when things go wrong. The plastic distribution boxes installed 16 years ago are now looking a little worse for wear having been out in the hot Australian sun and occasional intense burst of seriously wet weather. So those have now all recently been replaced with metal sturdy distribution boxes which as a side note, can be repaired and maintained. Take a peek into these mysterious, but necessary solar off grid components and see how things are done here. Come along with me for the journey! And if you've had any ideas or suggestions, don't hesitate to share them here.
