After an exhausting first day in the studio ascending the learning curve that comes with any new module- not least the SI Strange-R- I returned to it after a night’s sleep and patched this up in about three minutes, modulation included. You grab a loop (practice makes perfect in grabbing one of a good length), and gently modulate a parameter or two to make it more interesting. Here, the loop is being “walked” up and down, all the while ingeniously staying within the parameters imposed by musical theory. Afaik this is kinda what it’s supposed to do- although it’s intended to be rather more hands-on than my just sitting back and thinking “hmm, this is pretty good…” and then setting up a camera. A word on the scale. This is the first scale I drew up myself, and had I bothered to run the Strange-R through the O_C it would have comprised notes of 0.0, 90.2, 294.1, 498.0, 792.2 and 996.1 cents. Without the microtonal quantisation, it sounds broadly the same and can be thought of as C Phrygian without the fifth- or C Locrian without the flattened fifth if you’re feeling perverse. Frankly, I prefer it to both- but then I would, as it’s my scale. C Rorian if you will. Like and subscribe, good people, spread the word and enjoy the long weekend. Play some music. Invent a scale. Or just chill with a good book. Thanks for watching!
