Nigeria Condemns Arrest of 42 Citizens in Mozambique

Nigeria has strongly condemned the arrest of 42 Nigerian nationals in Mozambique, with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) demanding their immediate release or formal arraignment. According to the commission, those detained are legal residents who were arrested at a spare parts market where Nigerians were allegedly singled out while other traders were left untouched. NiDCOM CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the reports as disturbing, citing allegations of physical assault and confiscated belongings, while also raising concerns about the health of some detainees who are said to have fallen ill in custody. The commission has called on Mozambican authorities to provide an urgent explanation and to ensure the rights and dignity of foreign residents are respected.
