Ex-Hurricane Ophelia | Strong 40kt Gust Winds at Birmingham Airport | Windy Landings & Take offs!

This video can not be taken or reuploaded without permission from me Well, once I heard the news about this Ex Hurricane coming, I instantly decided to go somewhere! And somewhere I haven't been for a few months, being Birmingham Airport. Sadly it wasn't a crosswind that much here, the winds being more southwesterly than westerly, however it still created for some windy approaches, dodgy landings, and sideways take offs! And my god what a storm!!! The winds did indeed reach about 40kts, gusting at around 2pm, and it meant that I had to even hold the tripod while filming overwise it would of blown away! The winds were quite strong! But that wasn't the highlight of this storm, for me the highlight was the phenomenon which came across the whole of the UK pretty much, that indeed being the golden, yellow, orange sky that was created by this ex Hurricane, which brought up Saharan sand, and smoke from Iberian wildfires! The sun did look spectacular I must say! And this was during mid day, it certainly looked apocalyptic, and very sunset style. Eventually the colourful phenomenom blew over, and we were left with clear blue skies, and 20 degrees weather, in mid October!!! Which is very rare! The winds at this point were quite strong, and you will notice quite a few crabbing, and windy approaches, especially with the smaller jets, notably a Cessna Citation! I must say a massive well done to all the pilots in the UK, of whom were flying during Storm Ophelia, the amount of skill in landing in these conditions is spectacular, and it certainly makes me want to give them an applause for landing safely! Ireland did get the strongest of this storm, with around 60kt gusts! And insane landings at Dublin, as you may have already seen! All schools were closed, and people were told to stay indoors unless essential travel is needed!
