According to reports, Russia printed and exported counterfeit Dinar notes to eastern Libya this year that were allegedly exchanged for real dollars on the black market or through local banks. Reports also say this illicit money has been used to fund infrastructure projects in east Libya and finance Russian mercenary activity. In June this year, the US sanctioned Goznak, Russia's state money printer, for printing more than one billion dollars in counterfeit Libyan currency.
