It's Coming... A massive winter storm is heading straight for our off-grid Alaska homestead - forecasters are calling for 30 inches of snow over the next few days! With our family of 9 living in a remote cabin, we need to make sure we have everything we need before we're snowed in. Join us as we race against time to stock up on fuel, food, and supplies before the blizzard hits. We're loading up on propane (our tanks only last about a week right now!), filling dozens of gas cans for our generator since we're barely getting any solar power this time of year, and doing a grocery run to keep everyone fed. But the prep doesn't stop there - temperatures are already dropping to -12°F, which means we need to protect our solar batteries from freezing. Watch as we work late into the night making sure our off-grid systems can handle the extreme cold. In this video: Stocking up on propane and gasoline for heat and power Grocery shopping for our large family before the storm Protecting our solar battery bank in subzero temps Hauling firewood and final preparations Bonus moose sighting in our yard! This is what real off-grid living in Alaska looks like during winter. No power lines to rely on, no quick trip to the store once the snow hits - just preparation, hard work, and family teamwork.
