Het HAVENHUIS / PORT HOUSE - Antwerpen (Belgium)
Het HAVENHUIS / PORT HOUSE is a government building located in the Antwerp area of Eilandje and acts as the new headquarters of the Antwerp Port Authority. The structure was designed by Iraqi-British artist Zaha Hadid. It opened in 2016, the year of her death. The quayside in front of the Port House was named Zaha Hadid plein (square) to honour her. The older building on which it is constructed, used to be a fire station, and is a protected replica of a Hanseatic house. Thus, it could not be demolished and had to be integrated into the new project. The structure resembles the hull of a sailing ship, referring to the world-known port of Antwerpen, second largest shipping port of Europe, handling 26℅ of Europe's container shipping.
