Hello guys, I made this sloppy, badly edited, poorly recorded, terrible video in a rush because I was going to leave for the holidays. This is my new Jackson Pro Series Chris Broderick signature Soloist 6. I bought it from Thomann on the very first day they had stock, just pure luck, I was going to buy another guitar that I liked less and this popped up on the web page ! So I decided to take a shot and buy it. It was a great decision, this thing rips. I've been looking for a double locking tremolo metal guitar for a while now, but just couldn't find one that had everything I wanted in my price range. I was looking at the Vola Guitars Ares, which is very similar actually, but this was both cheaper (at 1269€ on Thomann, bought from France) and had more interesting features (like the bypassed tone). I was looking for a HSH or HH superstrat shape, with lots of contouring, great access to the upper frets, good pickups, a narrow and quite thin (but not too thin) neck and either no tone or a no-load tone. So this ticked all the boxes. It also has a back routed jack which is very well placed, doesn't go in the way at all. I love the Gotoh GE1996T, I like it better than a Floyd 1000, because it is both lighter and lower profile, and also has a latching arm. The fingerboard is ebony with a 12" radius and is a joy to play on, the neck is super narrow and thin, somewhere between an ESP Eclipse and Ibanez Wizard neck. It's much narrower than the both of them though. The most similar neck I've played I would say is the Japanese Charvel DK24 with non-locking tremolo. The access is pretty much unparalleled. The pickups are very good, especially the bridge. It's high output, very midrange-y, has a lot of bite, especially for lead stuff. For rhythm it is very tight, maybe even... too tight ? The neck is great for soaring, liquid leads à-la John Petrucci. They do clean up nicely with the controls on the guitar, which are suprisingly good quality ! On the clean channel it's not that impressive, they are quite high output. I couldn't gather much more info on them, they seem to be modified D-Activators with a slight mid bump. I don't know a lot about Chris Broderick, nor do I have any real interest in what he does, but I have to say he made an awesome guitar. My pet peeve on this guitar is that it came with 9-42 strings and a very very light spring setup on the tremolo. This is not my favorite string/spring combination... I prefer a lot more tension in both the strings and the tremolo. But it did come out of the box setup PERFECTLY, super low action without any buzzing, the trem was perfectly flush with the body... Great stuff. Though it was out of tune, but come on, it's new strings on a tremolo guitar, of course it had to be. Still 10/10 out of the box. It does come with straplocks, I just haven't installed them yet because I was too excited to play the guitar ! It also comes in a pretty nice softcase that is apparently made specifically for this model. About the top, I couldn't find anything more than "Flamed Maple Veneer", I assume it is really only a finish at this pricepoint but man is it convincing. And I also noticed in the trem cavity a slight change of color where a cap would be, so really not sure what it is. All in all, absolute beast of a guitar, and at the price point, for a shred machine it is pretty much unbeatable in my personal opinion. Hope you enjoyed the video (while I keep it uploaded...), have a great day !
