Annual 'marijuana march' in Buenos Aires

(6 May 2017) Thousands of people took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Saturday calling for the legalisation of marijuana in the country. As part of the Global Marijuana March, protesters gathered at the Plaza de Mayo square and marched towards the National Congress asking for more research into the benefits of the marijuana plant and its cultivation. On March 29th, the Argentine Senate voted to legalize medicinal marijuana which creates a regulatory framework for the medical community to prescribe cannabis for various conditions. The bill also guarantees that the state will oversee the importation and supply of medicinal cannabis and promote the ongoing domestic production, along with research and development. The Global Marijuana March is marking its 18th year and is celebrated worldwide on the first Saturday of May.
