Tools for Increasing Trust in Elections and Preventing Political Violence

Democratic governance requires that citizens have trust in electoral institutions and processes, trust in one another, and the willingness to engage in civic life. In this Whitburn Wednesday event, Whitburn Center researchers will share the results of their ongoing work with community leaders across Wisconsin to identify and mitigate the risks of political violence. Michael Ford and Samantha Larson will share insights from five focus groups conducted in the summer of 2024, and Kate Zurn from the Conflict Resolution Center will provide examples of de-escalation strategies useful in navigating politically contention conversation. Attendees will leave with a knowledge of the challenges facing democratic governance in Wisconsin, and practical tools for navigating those challenges.
