It also produces 107 kW (145 hp) (predecessor: 100 kW (136 hp)) at the same engine speed as before, 7,750 rpm, and develops a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm (predecessor: 143 Nm at 6,250 rpm), making it by far the most powerful BMW boxer engine ever produced in series production. Three riding modes as standard, engine drag torque control (MSR) as standard. To adapt to individual rider preferences, the new R 1300 R offers three riding modes as standard. The two riding modes, "Rain" and "Road," allow the rider to adapt the handling to most road conditions. The "Eco" riding mode also makes it possible to use the innovative BMW ShiftCam technology primarily to maximize the range on a single tank of fuel. The new R 1300 R can be equipped with the Riding Modes Pro option as an optional factory-installed feature. Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) is already fitted as standard. This reliably prevents unstable riding conditions that can arise when coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip on the rear wheel (skidding or stumbling). In these cases, MSR opens the throttle valves rapidly enough to equalize the drag torque and stabilize the motorcycle. New Extras: ASA, DSA The ASA automated manual transmission, which we already tested on the GS Adventure and found to be very good, is also available as an option for the R. Clutch operation is no longer necessary, but gears can be changed at any time using the foot shift lever if the gear selection is not optimal for the current situation. The standard Dynamic ESA electronic suspension, with dynamic damping adjustment and adjustable rear spring preload, already offers a high degree of riding safety and enjoyment on a wide variety of terrain. The Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) electronic suspension now goes a step further and combines dynamic adjustment of the front and rear damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring rate ("spring stiffness") depending on the selected riding mode, riding conditions, and maneuvers. This makes the new BMW R 1300 R the first production motorcycle to feature an upside-down telescopic fork that allows for spring rate adjustment. The adjustable spring preload ensures automatic load compensation. With DSA, the driver benefits from even more differentiated handling and greater lean angle freedom.
