The Everesting Challenge is described as “simple in concept, yet brutally hard,” both physically and mentally. In the Everesting Challenge, a cyclist rides or a runner runs repeatedly up and down a hill in one activity until the elevation of Mount Everest (8,848 meters or 29,032 feet) has been climbed. Virtual Everesting means using virtual platform such as Zwift. Again it has to be one hill and one single activity without any sleep. Rest breaks are allowed. Alpe du Zwift (AdZ) is modelled turn-for-turn on the iconic Alpe d’Huez in southeastern France. From the start line to the finish banner, AdZ gains 1,036 meters (3,399 feet) over 12.2 km (7.6 miles) at an average gradient of 8.5%. Virtual Everesting on AdZ takes a little over 8.5 ascents. Details: Start time = 2:17 AM vEveresting badge time = 6:03 PM Finish time = 6:07 PM Total climbing time = 12 hours, 25 minutes Approximate energy burned = 6784 kJ or 1606 Kcal Energy ingested = I did not keep track, but it was 4 bananas, 1 Clif bar, 2 jam sandwiches, a lot of pretzel slims, some tortilla chips, some chicken, some ice cream, and dates+maple syrup.
