Wide shot inside El AL terminal STORYLINE: Some 330 American and Canadian Jews emigrated to Israel on Tuesday on a specially chartered plane paid for by an Orthodox Jewish organisation. Nefesh B'Nefesh (which means Jewish Souls United) was set up last year to help North American Jews make "aliyah" (literally - the ascent or the ascension) - which is the Hebrew name for the migration of Jews to Israel. The group consisted of many families, who despite concerns about the security situation in Israel, said they were emigrating to show their support for the country. Many of the group received financial aid from Nefesh B'Nefesh and the organisation's co-founder, Tony Gelbart, was at the airport to wish them well on their journey. In July 2002, Nefesh B'Nefesh organised the first chartered flight of 400 North Americans making aliyah at one time, a first in Israel's history. This year, the organisation is sponsoring the moves of about 940 North American Jews, including Tuesday's group. About 300 are leaving on a chartered jet on July 22 and the rest in groups of 30 or so over the following six weeks. The privately funded organisation helps prospective immigrants with bureaucratic issues. It also provides loans of up to 18-thousand US dollars that the immigrants don't have to pay back if they remain in Israel for at least three years. Several Israeli dignitaries were on hand for the send-off at the airport, with the ambassador to the US describing the migration as "making a great human bridge between our two great nations". The group is scheduled to arrive at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport on Wednesday morning and will be greeted by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
