The all-new Urban Cruiser is set to make its mark in the market, offering a powerful design, spacious interior, and advanced technology features in the compact battery electric SUV segment. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is derived from the Toyota Urban SUV concept, which was unveiled last year and is itself based on the Suzuki eVX concept. The production version of the Urban Cruiser is exclusive to Europe, and this subcompact crossover is built on a new electric platform that is shared with the Suzuki e-Vitara. The Urban Cruiser EV measures 4,285 mm in length, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. It stands 1,640 mm tall and 1,800 mm wide. With a turning radius of just 5.2 meters, the SUV will be available with either 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, depending on the model grade. The Urban Cruiser EV adopts an ‘Urban Tech’ design theme, featuring a distinctive ‘hammerhead’ front end that integrates the headlamps and DRLs. Its side profile closely resembles that of the Suzuki e-Vitara, with the rear design also sharing similarities, highlighted by the connected tail lights. Additionally, the alloy wheel designs of the Urban Cruiser EV and the e-Vitara are identical. The Urban Cruiser EV and e-Vitara share the same interior layout, with the main distinction being the Toyota logo on the steering wheel and varying themes. Both e-SUVs are equipped with floating dual screens— a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen. The floating center console, finished in gloss black, houses controls for gear selection, the brake, drive mode selection, and also includes a wireless charging pad. Other notable features include a two-spoke steering wheel, rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds, a rotary drive mode selector, and leatherette upholstery. The vehicle also offers wireless smartphone mirroring, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, a wireless charger, an electric parking brake with auto hold, an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and more. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV offers two lithium-iron phosphate battery pack options: 49kWh and 61kWh. Depending on the region, both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations will be available. The all-wheel drive model will feature a 48kW motor on the rear axle. The 49kWh battery is available only in the front-wheel drive version, delivering a motor output of 142bhp and 189Nm of torque. The front-wheel drive model can also be equipped with a 61kWh battery, offering a higher motor output of 172bhp and 189Nm of torque. For the all-wheel drive version, only the 61kWh battery is offered, providing a motor output of 181bhp and 300Nm of torque. Toyota will equip the all-wheel drive variants with a Trail Mode, designed to detect and brake a spinning wheel while directing drive torque to the opposite wheel for improved traction.
