I'm an orthopedic surgeon with a specialty in sports medicine. When I was younger, I had the propensity to develop fractures from falling and different injuries. And one of the things that I always admired was my orthopedic surgeon was able to put me back together and get back out on the streets again. [Why did you choose Miami?] Keith Hechtman: I can not think of a place that I enjoy more. We visited a lot of places all throughout the world, but there's no place that I felt at home and that's why I stayed here. [Any inspiring recovery stories?] Keith Hechtman: The sports that I'm involved with now are much more laid back. They involve swimming, bicycling, and fishing. [How do you motivate your patients?] Keith Hechtman: I feel very comfortable in my skills and I will tell them, "Listen, I know from my experience that you're going to do great." I said, "I'm not just talking about doing or being what you were before, but you're going to be better." And they'll speak and say, "Well, how do you know?" I've been doing this. I've seen it before. And I think the confidence that I instill in them helps them overcome. [Any Inspiring Recovery Stories?] Keith Hechtman: There is a case of a young girl in high school who had a jet ski injury. She had a very significant injury and was told she'd never walk or use her leg again. Through the help of some other physicians, we put the knee back together. And one special moment, she asked me to dance with her at her wedding and she was able to dance. And that's pretty remarkable thing. [What sets the center of excellence apart?] Keith Hechtman: In our center we have the complete spectrum of care. We not only have the trainers, the therapist, the diagnostic modalities, and the equipment, coupled with the physicians to provide the best quality care. It's not just the patients, not just the doctors, not just the therapists. It's a combination of a team. It's the team, unless they're together it doesn't happen. They don't win.
