In this video from last year (March 2020), I clean and repair a C. Roby sword that dates back to around 1860. The idea here is not to restore the sword, but rather repair it. As much as possible, I leave the patina and character alone, while correcting mechanical flaws. I disassemble the handle, anneal the brass guard (i.e. heating the brass to an extremely high temperature to rejuvenate it), and gently straighten and reshape the guard and shell. I later straighten the tang, buff the guard, and then attempt to match the patina of the guard, pommel, and grip before reassembling it. I also use steel wool to lightly clean and remove some of the rust that's accumulated on the blade over the years, and I improvise a bending fork to remove the bend and twist along the length of the sword.
