How to grow your own SUBTROPICAL MICROCLIMATE | 250 year old example!

Microclimate, a word that’s used a lot in gardening. In this video I’ll explain the benefits of creating different microclimates in a garden and how it can help you grow some very special tropical style plants. We’ll look at how I’m creating microclimates in my own tropical garden and we’ll visit a subtropical garden that’s benefitting from microclimates that have been 250 years in the making! A microclimate is defined as a small or restricted area that experiences different climatic conditions to the areas surrounding it. In the Grow Paradise tropical style garden we utilise 3 different microclimates: warm, cool and dry. These particular microclimates help elongate the growing season, protect tender plants from colder winter weather and allow me to grow drought loving plants in the wetter seasons.
