About the talk The presentation examines the main Greek texts on the doctrine of the Antichrist — from Irenaeus and Hippolytus to Philip Monotropos — and the role the Apocalypse plays in articulating that doctrine. It concludes that the doctrine arose independently of the Apocalypse and could only with difficulty be reconciled with it. About the presenter John C. Lamoreaux is a professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. His research focuses on early Islamic intellectual history, Christian Arabic, and Greek patristics. He is currently finishing an anthology of translations of the main texts on the Antichrist in the Greek tradition.
