This is a straightforward and quick step-by-step tutorial on how to create and install front turn indicators for the Ausom L2 MAX Dual Motor scooter, which comes equipped only with rear turn signals. In addition, this DIY guide shows how to upgrade the factory-installed rear indicators of L2 MAX by adding powerful, ultra-bright 12V COB LEDs for improved visibility and safety. Start by unscrewing the 11 bolts that secure the battery compartment cover to the scooter’s frame and remove the cover. This will give you access to the screws that hold the turn signal housings in place. Remove these screws (2 per housing), and you can take off the front turn signal housings, which are empty, and the rear ones, which contain a plastic platform/PCB with 15 LEDs. For this project, you will need to remove this platform from the housing (don’t worry, we will reinstall it later). Each platform is secured with 4 screws, so unscrew them and carefully take the platform off. Repeat for the other side. That completes the disassembly. Next, cut the wires connecting the LED platforms to the Ausom L2 MAX indicator system. Simply disconnecting the wires from the platform is not an option because later we will need the platform to retain two short wires connected to it. After cutting the wires, strip and tin them. Set the platform aside and prepare the LEDs that will be used to enhance the original rear indicators and add front indicators to the L2 MAX. Preparing the LEDs is straightforward. You will need a yellow or, preferably, orange 12V COB LED strip (at least 70 cm). For this project, we used a 5mm wide COB LED strip. Cut it into 14 equal pieces, each up to 5 cm long. Then solder 5 pieces together in parallel (repeat for another 5) and solder the remaining 2 pieces together (repeat for the other 2). The sets of 5 LED pieces will be used for the front turn signals, while the sets of 2 will enhance the rear indicators. Additionally, prepare two 50 cm long, 2-wire cables, strip and tin both ends, and solder one end of each cable to the appropriate set of 5 LED pieces. You can create these from soft plastic — for example, ice-cream container lids work well. Place the original rear platform on the plastic, trace around it with a pen, cut out the shape with scissors, and make screw holes using a screwdriver or knife. Now solder the sets of 2 LED strips to the rear platforms to upgrade the original rear indicators. This is where those two short wires we kept on the platform will be used — solder the LED strips to them. Return to the scooter and take the turn signal cable from the front end of its channel (running to the rear of the deck). Strip and tin its wires, then solder them to the set of 5 LED pieces. Once done, feed the cable back through the channel from the front end and exit from the rear, then solder it to the rear indicator platform. Repeat for the other side. At this point, the front turn signals are fully installed and connected to the scooter electronics, and the rear indicators have been upgraded. Finally, reassemble the scooter by reversing the disassembly steps. The only difference is that you will now attach the custom front LED platforms to the front housings the same way you did with the rear ones.
