Many thanks to kukun kun for preserving footage of BS F-Zero Grand Prix 1 and 2! Here's a link to the video the song appears in: • BS F-ZERO グランプリ2 第2週 Also, I learned how to sync the song with the video, lol. EDIT: The more I listen to it, the more I feel like I could've done some things better to make it sound good, perhaps I'll redo it in the future alongside Forest I-III & Sand Storm I (GP1) TRACK: Alright! One of my favorites! I really like this one! Though I will say that redoing these in SNES F-Zero style makes them lose a bit of flair, not to mention the limitations (which is why I will post my MIDIs of these tracks in the future as well). Metal Fort II is still nowhere near my favorite, but I think I've slightly softened up about it? I'd still place it near the bottom though. The same can't be said for this track. It's a real bop, when I was transcribing it I was headbanging at the beginning, it's really fitting for Metal Fort, hence why I question its usage in Sand Storm I, but ah well, more chances to listen to this banger. That said, its presence in Sand Storm I did prove helpful, as recreating the melody was actually quite easy, thanks to gac200's restoration of the first week's music (which had Sand Storm I in it), that, and the track itself is quite simple. The biggest challenge was trying to make it sound good using F-Zero's SNES instruments. It's not exactly the most rock-sounding soundtrack, there's no guitar synths of the sort, and the drums are closer to 80s drums than what was used for the BS F-Zero GP2 tracks. I hope I succeeded, as this was quite the challenge, and I wanted to make it sound as good as possible, with a few corners cut, unfortunately. The beginning part was supposed to have a sax, but it sounded too irritating, hence why I used Fire Field's synth, I thought it might be grating, but Fire Field uses it at an even higher key, so I should be good. Fire Field in general did give me some clues as to how to approach this track, the grungy bass + fretless bass combo works well as a semi-substitute for guitar riffs, while in other sections I had to use trumpets and whatnot, simply to give it some variety. The drums definitely took a hit, and the 5 channel limitation didn't help, hence a lot of crashes and hi-hats had to be taken out. All in all, I'm satisfied with the result, but I do think it'd sound better with real instruments or heck, even in its MIDI form (which I will upload, as I previously said) STORY: I've always been fascinated by BS F-Zero Grand Prix 1 and 2 (long name, huh). It has vehicles that would never return to the series after this entry (such as the Blue Thunder - which is my personal favorite, it just looks so cool and the name sounds badass - the Luna Bomber, the Green Amazone and the Fire Scorpion), alongside a few new locations, such as Sand Storm, Metal Fort and Forest. Some of these race tracks were preserved, but as of now, the remaining Metal Fort and Forest layouts (alongside the new ones for already existing locations) seem to be lost media. I can only hope the rest are found. While BS F-Zero GP1's music seems to be rearranged versions of the jazz album of the original F-Zero and Nintendo Super Famicom Game Music (for Mute City and Red Canyon), alongside some original rearrangements (e.g. Port Town's), BS F-Zero GP2's original music tracks come from the practice runs before the actual grand prix races, which would play licensed music in the background. Hope you enjoy!
