Baul Ashram Being Built, 1991 Vijali and Basudeb Das Baul, Santiniketan West Bengal
I received a dream to use my artistic talents to bring peace into the world. I started a journey in 1987 which I called World Wheel, Global Peace Through the Art circling the planet now in 20 countries. I reached India in 1991 and instead of carving an environmental sculpture as I had in other countries, I build a Baul Ashram with and for the Bauls so that they would have a place to sleep, play music, eat and have a Baul Festival once a year. This was created on a plat of land next to the home of Basudeb and Urmela in a village close to Santiniketan. The festival continues until today. Now in 2016 and 2019 I have happily reunited with this family. Basudeb has so many students now that we are trying to build a Baul School for teaching Baul music and philosophy. I will be teaching meditation art with the Baul themes. We need funding!!! The young people and children in this film who are now grown are: Basudeb Das Baul, Urmila Das, Shibsundar Das Baul, Daidyanath Das, Anita Das, Bijoy Daloi, Babita Das, Uttam Chakrborty, Gopal Das, Sumamta Das, Bhavataran Mukherjee, Jagannaty Das.
