Available as a tablet. How to use it? Tablet: just swallow it whole with half a glass of water. It is best to take this medicine at fixed times. This will make you less likely to forget a dose. When to use it? Bisoprolol is part of a group of drugs called beta blockers. These reduce the workload on your heart and widen your blood vessels, causing your heart to beat slower and with less force. Therefore Bisoprolol can be used to treat; A high blood pressure, angina pectoris and chronic heart failure. What is the correct dosage? The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you. However, in adults, most doctors will start with an initial dose of 1.25 mg 1×/day for 1 week. If this is tolerated well, the dose might be increased weekly by 1,25mg up to 5mg 1x/day. From there the dose can be increased every 4 weeks with 2,5mg up to a max. of 10mg per day. What are the side-effects? Very common (10%): slow heart rate. Common (1-10%): Increase in heart failure, dizziness, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure, cold hands or feet, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. Uncommon (0.1-1%): conduction disturbances, low blood pressure, muscle weakness, cramps, sleep disturbance and depression. Rare (0.01-0.1%): hearing impairment, allergic reaction, loss of consciousness, hot flashes, erectile dysfunction, nightmare and hallucination. Very rare (0.01%): Increase of psoriasis, rash and hair loss. Safety: The first days of using bisoprolol it can lead to dizziness or fatigue. Please do not drive while experiencing this. Furthermore, alcohol widens the blood vessels. It can therefore increase the side effect of dizziness at the beginning of treatment. Try drinking alcohol in moderation first so you can estimate its effects. Bisoprolol can also have interactions with other drugs you are taking. Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor. Lastly, bisoprolol could be dangerous for pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding. Therefore always discuss this with your personal doctor.
