Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss, Jena (Germany) Application: Military Era: WW1 Magnification: 8x Objective Lens Size: 40mm Field of View: 6.3° - 110m at 1000m Specifics: The D.F. 8x40 was produced in two versions from 1914 to 1919: From 1914 to 1916 in the design of the civilian TELUMACT and from 1916 to 1919 in the design of the civilian TELACTO. While the TELUMACT version looks a bit like the 6x30 Marineglas with 40mm lenses, the TELACTO version already had the design of the post-war version of the D.F. 8x40, which was based on the DELACTIS. However, the WWI versions did not yet have the wide field of view of the DELACTIS. The TELUMACT version was still made of brass parts due to the early production, while the TELACTO versions then increasingly consisted of zinc parts due to the shortage economy as the war progressed. According to the book "Zeiss Handferngläser 1894-1919" by Hans Seeger, this example of the TELACTO version, which has the serial number 979595, was manufactured in 1918 in a series of 300 units (979501-979800).
