We've ALL had this happen to us at least once: You've lost something, and after searching in every little nook and cranny, you find the thing has been right out in the open the whole time! People tend to overthink when they're searching for something, and the same goes for murder mysteries. More often than not, the thing/criminal/evidence that we are hunting has been right in front of our face the whole time. A good author of mysteries knows this piece of human psychology, and uses it.
