The maximum workpiece diameter for this machine is 160mm. In order to process a part with a diameter of 240 mm, it was necessary to raise the headstock and tool holder. To do this, I used end blocks of length and ground cutters. Before lifting the headstock, I dismantled the box of interchangeable gears. To mount the headstock, I made long bolts on M8. To mount the tool holder, I also had to make an elongated special bolt. Since the locking pins on the headstock came out of the grooves on the frame when it was raised, the position of the headstock in the horizontal plane was violated. To expose the headstock, I used such a homemade rolling pin. How I made it is shown in one of my videos. “Lathe MN-80. Since the faceplate is very large, it cannot be clamped in either the 3 or 4 jaw chuck on this machine. To fix the faceplate to the front side, I screwed a square part with four bolts. And already for this part I fixed the faceplate in a 4-jaw chuck. And after that I set the faceplate in the radial and axial direction. I redid the faceplate for another machine, it has an M52x3 thread on the spindle. And this faceplate has an M48x3 thread. It is necessary to cut the M52x3 thread on it. For threading with a pitch of 3 mm, I tuned the guitar. If you tune the guitar according to the table attached to the machine, then when the headstock is raised, the gears disengage. Therefore, for threading with a pitch of mm, I picked up a different combination of gears. Due to the fact that the headstock is raised, the distance between the spindle axis and the motor axis has increased. Therefore, the eccentric belt tensioner was dismantled, and instead of it, with a simple screw, it provided the required belt tension. I cut the M52x3 thread and tried on the faceplate on the machine. This is how we managed to cut threads into large-diameter parts on a small MN-80 machine.
