What? You gotta go now? S：haha no, I just feel like this is a common situation that might happen to any one. 这句话，还有这个画面，难道不熟悉吗？想想如果在国外旅行，这句话得多实用啊 C：那我先确认一下啊，你这个憋不住，不是说憋不住笑，憋不住秘密，而是憋不住去厕所吧 S：haha right, something you say to me quite often at the office. C：(cough), don't give that away. S：you always go there the last minute before you can't hold it in any longer. C：Can't you just hold my little secret to yourself? S：haha 我一有秘密就憋不住分享啊，那这个憋住，不管是哪个场合，其实都可以用到这个词，hold，比如说憋着秘密不说，hold back your little secret C：我现在憋着不哭, I'm holding back my tears. S：那我就是憋住不笑，I'm holding back my laughter. C：你现在憋住不去上厕所, You're holding it in. You can't wait any longer. S：No, I'm not holding in Not me. C：Alright alright if you say so. 那其实英语中，这个憋不住去厕所，日常中说法还挺多，我们今天可以来聊一聊 S：哈哈你说，大家会不会觉得我们画风突变，原来都是跟大家聊中科院院士、神舟十三什么的 C：诶，既能上天揽月，也能下海捉鳖，今天我们就是来，捉这个憋，不过是憋不住的憋 S：哈哈谐音鬼才啊，那我们今天就来聊聊轻松日常的英文表达 S：Ok, we've talked about the word, hold. I can't hold it in. I can't hold it in any longer. 憋不住可以用这个词组，hold in，注意有介词in，那除了这个，你刚刚还用了一个词，go C：Right, we can say, I gotta go. I really need to go. S：Go where? C：Go to the bathroom, go to the washroom, or go to the toilet. But in speaking, we don't need to be specific about where we are going. S：对，去厕所嘛，好几个表达都可以，go to the bathroom, go to the washroom, go to the toilet. 但是口语中，后面这个bathroom不用说出来，直接省略说，I need to go 就可以了 C：Right, with the context, your facial expression and your body language, people understand what you really want to do. S：哈哈是的，有语境，你的面部表情，还有肢体语言，谁听了这句话都懂你是什么意思 C：而且这句话里有个单词的作用很大，就是really，depending on how you say the word, you're telling others how urgent the situation is. For example, if you say 'I reeeally need to go', it sounds more urgent than saying 'I really need to go. I can't wait any longer.' S：I reeally need to go. 这一听就知道，是真的憋不住了 C：除了这个really，还有一个形容词也可以表示，这种憋不住的急迫，desperate S：desperate 这个词不是表示绝望吗，you're very sad and upset because of having little or no hope. C：Yeah, but when you really need to use the bathroom, and the nearest one is 30 minutes away, how would you feel? S：Desperate. C：Exaclty. 当然这个说法是比较夸张的，但是这个表达的意思还是很清晰的，所以口语中就可以直接说 I'm desperate. S：I know there's an occasion where we can use the sentence. When you are waiting in line in front of the bathroom and the line seems endless. C：yeah right, then you can say, 'I'm desperate, can I cut in line?' S：我真的憋不住了，能不能让我插下队，这里的插队就是 cut in line C：If you're in the UK, then you might say, can I jump the queue. 这个排队在美国用line，英国用queue，所以英国的插队就是jump the queue S：OK，现在格局打开了，那我也想起一个单词，burst, like in the sentence, I'm bursting. C：right, this word we can definitely use. burst 的意思也太形象了，本来可以表示爆裂，胀开，比如说气球爆了，the balloon bursted, 水管爆裂了，a burst pipe. S：对，所以如果说 I'm bursting. 画面感很足，就是说我要炸了，it means I need to use the toilet right now! C：Here you said, I'm bursting, actually, there's another phrase we can use, be about to do. So we can also say, I'm about to burst. S：I'm about to burst. right. 这里是用到这个搭配，be about to do, 这里的about 和大约大概没关系，整个词组的意思是说，正要做，即将，马上要做，口语中特别实用，比如说我马上要走了，I'm about to leave. C：我正准备要告诉你一个秘密，I'm about to tell you a secret. S：What secrect? C：I'm about to tell you, but then all of a sudden, I don't want to say. S：I'm about to burst with anger. 这里的burst 还有个比喻用法，burst with anger 就是气炸了，你不告诉我我就气炸了 C：Haha calm down. Alright, I think there's another word that goes with the word burst. It's very specific and relates to our topic. S：What's the word? C：Bladder. S：em... bladder, an organ that's shaped like a bag in which liquid waste collects before it is passed out of the body. C：Right. 刚刚这都是术语解释啊，其实呢，这个bladder就是我们的膀胱，能不能憋住就都靠它了 S：哈哈那这个bladder 在口语中可以怎么用呢 C：Ok, so we can say, my bladder is about to burst. My bladder is going to burst. Or I have a full bladder. S：a full bladder, 满了。那中文里，我们会这么对朋友说吗？比如说，cc我的膀胱要炸了 C：确实啊，这个就全看你们两之间的关系了，好朋友之间还是可以用到这个表达的，So make sure we only use this sentence in informal occations, between close friends or maybe families. S：I would never say this to my parents. C：haha me too. 那这个bladder 还有个常见的搭配，empty your bladder. S：排空是吗, another way to say pee, or piss. C：Right, like when people go to the bathroom every three or four hours to empty their bladder. S：Ok, 那刚刚讲到这几个表达可以使用的场合啊，burst 和 hold in 是非正式的，好朋友之间说没问题 C：I really need to go 这个使用范围会大一点 S：不过真到了紧急关头，可能说哪句都不重要了吧 C：哈哈有道理，so next time if you get the 'really gotta go' urge, now you know what to say to your friends. S：I prefer just to leave without saying anything, or just 'excuse me' C：当然，如果大家不想解释说，我憋不住了，想更委婉一点，当然可以用上这句万能的话，excuse me S：Or would you excuse me for a moment. C：And then you can leave in a hurry.
