The greater sciatic foramen is considered as the “door of the gluteal region” through which all arteries and nerves enter into the gluteal region from the pelvis. By way of the suprapiriform foramen are leaving the pelvis the superior gluteal nerve and the superior gluteal artery. By way of the infrapiriform foramen are passing much more structures and those are: The inferior gluteal artery and inferior gluteal nerve. The sciatic nerve (which is the most lateral structure) The posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh. Nerve to quadratus femoris. Nerve to obturator internus.
