Lara Croft may have begun her adventure on the Tomb Raider for the Sega Saturn, but it was Tomb Raider II that cemented her legacy on the PlayStation. For decades, rumours have swirled that a Saturn version was in development before being cancelled — another “what if?” in SEGA’s 5th generation story. Now, thanks to the incredible work of RetroRaider John (JRTombRaider), that lost chapter is beginning to take shape. In this video, we test the first publicly playable Saturn demo of Tomb Raider II, featuring the entire Great Wall level running on real hardware. Built using the original Saturn engine from Tomb Raider as a base, this is effectively a bespoke hybrid engine bringing TR2 to life on SEGA’s 32-bit machine.
