Rassie Erasmus has warned that the Barbarians’ free-flowing playing style can leave players with mental scars if not approached properly. Speaking to the media, Erasmus compared the match to a full Test, saying it would be a mistake not to select a strong team for the clash. Erasmus admitted it’s been a challenge getting everyone on the same page, but they’ve now completed fitness tests, and by Thursday, the full squad will be aligned. When asked if facing so-called weaker teams would be enough preparation, Erasmus was quick to dismiss that idea. He reminded everyone that the Barbarians are no pushovers, recalling how they beat Argentina in 2018 when he coached them, with several Springboks in that side. He added that the Barbarians team selected for this fixture would be a serious challenge. The Cape Town venue removes any altitude issues, but selection is still being carefully managed.
