A Las Vegas mother and police are offering sharply different accounts of what happened in the moments before a 3-year-old boy was shot and killed during a confrontation at an apartment complex, marking the third officer-involved shooting this year in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction. Police said officers responded to Parkside Villas on South Maryland Parkway, between Windmill Lane and Wigwam Parkway, around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday after a report of a man battering a woman and trying to take a child from an apartment. While officers were on the way, they were told the suspect, identified as 3-year-old Kentre Baker’s father, Quinton Baker, had fired a gun in the parking lot, Capt. Ryan Wiggins said. When officers arrived, the woman reported that Baker was inside the apartment with the child and still armed with a handgun, according to police.
