This video will show you about How to grafting on Hylocereus a Rootstock STEP by STEP (Growing Cactus Fast and Easy) How to Graft a Cactus Plant Sterilize your blade with alcohol or apple cider vinegar. Do not underestimate this, blades carry infections from plant to plant and you will use it on an “open wound” STEP 1. Turn to the plant you want to graft on top of it. Choose a nice, healthy section from the top, where it is still growing. STEP 2. Cut the head off the rootstock at your desired height. You’ll need a minimum of two or three inches above the soil. STEP 3.Using a sharp knife, cleanly cut off the top of a small, upright cactus. Cut a few inches above the soil surface. This will be your stock. It’s best to use a plant growing in a three inch pot, with one inch diameter stem. STEP 4.Cut a flat, dome like section. Check that the surface you have cut is healthy and smooth. Now you have your scion. STEP 5.Put the scion on the top of the stock. Make sure that at least some of the vascular cambium of each part is in contact. It may require the scion to sit on top of the stock a bit off-center. You will be able to easily recognize the vascular cambium region as a distinct ring on the cut surfaces of the stock and the scion. STEP 6.Use tape of appropriate size and affix them over the scion and under the bottom of the pot. They will put a pressure on the scion, pressing it against the stock. The tape should go over the scion at 90 degrees from each other in order to prevent the scion from shifting. Make sure that the tapes are not too loose because they won’t be able to hold the scion tight enough. At the same time, make sure the rubber bands are not too tight or they will cut through the scion. STEP 7.And then, leave them in a shade for 1 week days, before gradually moving to a lighter spot. STEP 8. After 5-7 days, remove the tapes. The scion should be firmly attached to the stock by this time. These are basics for grafting cacti, and they usually work without much effort. The only thing you need to be careful about is to put vascular cambium of two plants in contact and to ensure enough pressure between the stock and the scion using rubber bands. In case the graft union failed to knit, cut a new surface on the stock, prepare a new scion and try again. With a bit of practice you will be able to graft cacti successfully without much effort. ***************************************************** Why Should You Graft a Cactus? There are a few reasons why you may wish to graft a cactus: To grow a weak species on top of a stronger one; this will give the weak plant thee energy of the stronger one. To save a dying cactus; if a cactus is so badly compromised that you can only save a small part of it, grafting will give you better chances of saving it than propagating it by cutting. For aesthetic reasons; this is very common, especially with small cacti like pincushion cactus (Mammillaria), mixing colors and shapes to produce a beautiful or contrasting effect. ***************************************************** Follow my social media ▶️ Youtube: / wichulada'sgarden ▶️ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2ZU9G2u ▶️ Instagram: / wichuladagarden ▶️ Twitter: / wichuladagarden Thanks for watching the video and don't forget to give it a thumbs up.
