Molecular Surveillance of infectious diseases The adoption of genomics as a molecular surveillance tool has revolutionized our ability to identify, track and investigate outbreaks of infectious disease. Public Health England adopted whole genome sequencing as a routine tool for the national surveillance of many pathogens in 2014. During this talk Tim Dallmann will focus on its use for the surveillance of foodborne pathogens and present several case studies highlighting its power to uncover outbreaks, to track emergence and assess the impact of interventions. The Robert Koch Colloquium is an annual interdisciplinary lecture series, each year focusing on one specific innovative public health topic, such as Digital Epidemiology (2017), Human Microbiome Research (2018), Burden of Disease (2019); in 2020, the Colloquium “Public health surveillance” had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. The theme of this year's Robert Koch Colloquium is Public Health Surveillance (2021). www.rki.de/rkc
