0:59 - Jenna Fischer's Backstory on Pam's Engagement Ring 3:21 - Jenna Fischer came up with why Pam and Roy were engaged for three years 6:17 - Angela Kinsey and the origin story of Sprinkles When it comes to the stories that "only people who were there could tell you", the Office Ladies often give snippets of insight that span several episodes. This clip includes stories from Hot Girl, Basketball, and The Pilot. Jenna Fischer talks about what she did to create some backstory for her character of Pam. First, how did Pam feel about the engagement ring that Roy gave her? Why were Pam and Roy engaged for three years without getting married? And who came up with Sprinkles? Jenna Fischer reveals that receiving a diamond cluster ring from Roy, as opposed to a diamond solitaire, had been something that Pam always saw as a symbol of Roy's lack of interest in her or in their relationship. She also explains that the reason Pam and Roy were engaged for three years without getting married is that around year one, Roy and his brother spent their wedding money on wave runners. Greg Daniels, writer and show creator of The Office loved this idea and it subtly comes up throughout the show. Angela Kinsey also reveals that in The Pilot, their very first episode, that she was instructed by Director Ken Kwapis to do some background work and hand out papers. One of the papers she handed out was a sticky note that said, "It's Sprinkles' 3rd Birthday! Come celebrate Tuesday in the parking lot." Angela Kinsey invented Sprinkles!
