Fred Matiang’i condemns repressive policing, accuses Ruto of misreading national mood

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has criticised President William Ruto for misreading the country’s mood, warning against what he termed as repressive policing and the deployment of hired goons against citizens. Addressing worshippers at PCEA Utawala Church today, Matiang’i, who previously served as Interior Cabinet Secretary for five years, said his experience gives him insight into the workings of Kenya’s security sector. He claimed Kenyans have roundly rejected the use of police force and criminal gangs to intimidate the public. Matiang’i expressed shock at reports that thugs were stationed at Kisumu International Airport to confront MPs, questioning the state of Kenya’s democracy if such actions are permitted.
