Upton & North Elmsall Railway Station - Abandoned Station Walk Around disused railway station. **link to full video of Wrangbrook and Upton - • Yorkshire Lost Railway - Hull & Barnsley R... This disused station on the Hull & Barnsley Railway in West Yorkshire opened in 1885. Primarily used by freight traffic from the Yorkshire coalfields to the port of Hull, passenger traffic was sparse. As a result in 1932, timetabled passenger services were withdrawn. There were some excursions and goods traffic until 1959, when the station closed fully. The line closed fully after this time and the tracks were listed in 1967. These days, you can walk through the old station on a public footpath to Upton Country Park and the old Upton Colliery. The old station had two platforms. The westbound platform is still largely intact. However no buildings remain. The eastbound platform is more of less dismantled. Small sections of the platform can be seen in the undergrowth, depending in what season you visit. Oringinally, the eastbound platform had a grander building and station house as well as canopies. If we explore the land around the old platform, we can find bricks and rubble scattered over a large area. Some of the bricks show the marks of old local brickworks. Behind the station was the goods sidings and cattle pens. We can see evidence of an old platform or cattle dock where one of the sidings would once run.
