Sources in the police said the two men who opened fire were from Vineet’s village, Mitraon, in South West Delhi's Najafgarh. Two persons from Delhi, along with a woman, were shot dead by unidentified assailants who opened fire in the parking lot of The Sultanat hotel at Pinjore, Panchkula district, early Monday when they were about to leave a birthday party. The police identified the deceased as Vineet alias Vicky (30), and his minor nephew Tirth (17), both residents of Delhi. The third deceased, Vandana (22), was a resident of Uchana Kalan town of Jind district. The police said in a statement that according to a preliminary probe, Vineet was facing five criminal cases, including that of murder and dacoity. One of the cases was registered at Panchkula’s Sector 20 police station in 2019. Sources in the police said the two men who opened fire were from Vineet’s village, Mitraon, in South West Delhi’s Najafgarh. “We suspect the accused were tracking Vineet’s movement,” said an officer. Around 10 people arrived at the hotel on Sunday evening to attend the birthday celebrations of Zirakpur resident Rohit Bhardwaj, the police said. A youngster who attended the party told mediapersons, “We were about to go home after the party and were in the parking lot of the hotel. Suddenly, three youngsters arrived there in a white Etios car and opened fire. We don’t know who they were. Vicky suffered eight to nine bullet injuries.” An FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was lodged at Pinjore police station based on a complaint filed by Zirakpur resident Aashish, who works in a private company and also attended the party. In his complaint, Aashish said Rohit had initially invited him and his other friends to hotel Bella Vista in Panchkula’s Sector 5. However, the venue of the party was later changed to The Sultanat at Pinjore. The party began at 10.30 pm and continued till 2.30 am, he added. At 2.40 am, Vineet, Tirth and Vandana moved towards their Scorpio car. As soon as Tirth sat in the passenger seat, two to three youngsters started firing indiscriminately. All three suffered bullet injuries. The assailants ran away after firing in the air,” he told the police. We took them to Panchkula’s civil hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival,” he added. After a postmortem examination was conducted at Panchkula’s civil hospital, the bodies were handed over to the families of the deceased on Monday evening, said police, adding that eight teams have been formed to probe the incident. #latest #News
